WASHINGTON, DC (June 17, 1998): Morten Beyer Agnew’s Y2K Conference held on July 14 was a great success. Having drawn in an impressive list of both speakers and attendees, the conference was highly informative and covered a wide range of issues related to the aviation industry. Keynote Speaker, Congressman James Oberstar, reassured the attendees that the U.S. air transport system is the safest in the world and he is confident it will remain so after the year 2000.
Additional speakers were: Raymond Long, Director, Y2K Program for the FAA, Tomothy Fehr, V.P.-Airplane Systems for Boeing, Charles Fletcher, Senior Director-Information Systems for Airbus, Don Antonucci, President, Air Traffic Management for Lockheed Martin, Tom Browne, Executive Director for Air Transport Association, Sue Powers, V.P. Sales and Marketing for Worldspan Information Services, Dr. John Longshore, Program Director, Y2K Implementation for TRW Systems & Information Technology Group, and Richard Cullerton, Asst. V.P. Engineering for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
Raymond Long of the FAA asserted that the FAA’s “single largest technical effort” is on track to meet its deadlines for becoming Y2K compliant/ready: all 656 systems will be renovated by the end of September and all systems will be implemented by the end of March, 1999.
Also contributing to the wealth of information, were the attendees. Executives from Wall Street, government contractors, FAA personnel, airline operators and representatives from the manufacturers were all present to learn and to educate about the posing problems that Y2K has to offer and the existing solutions.
